Mt. Kan-laon 1st Oriental Assault

MT. CANLAON NATURAL PARK
ZETS 1ST ORIENTAL ASSAULT 2010

One of the ancient Visayan deity is Kan-Laon - who is known as "One who is the Ruler of Time". “Kan” means a title given to rulers or other important people in Asian countries. It has been told that the mountain is said to be where Laon made his presence to the people. The supreme deity is the protector of nature and of the people.

Canlaon Volcano. The stately 2600-meter high mountain draws the boundary between Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental and is the highest peak in the Visayas Region and one of the five highest in the Philippines. It has been declared the most active volcano in the province, constantly emitting signals, its last eruption though mild being only this year (2006).

Mt. Makawiwili Ridge
Also dubbed as a “saddle in the sky”, Mt. Makawiwili Ridge is nestled 8,000 feet high in between two mountain peaks. It is officially the observation platform from where scientists, tourists and locals could study and observe the movements of the legendary Canlaon Volcano. It is usually where a team of trekkers or scientists set up camp because it is a very ideal spot for VHF or UHF relay posts and it also provides great visual advantage for observers of the volcano.

Headed by ZETS Lex Tyler Berame, together with ZETS sir Ayanz Gelves, ZETS sir Noel Ortega and ZETS Sterl Jason with ZETS Volunteers, Christian Rivera, Eduardo Nillas Jr., Kezia Cabrera, and Mountaineer Clemente Ryan Alcos joined forces with Sentinel Mountaineers Lead pack Kim Joseph Llena, Rambo Vergara, Rjed Eleco, Bagz Escares, and King with the cause of preserving and restoring mother nature at the same time taking the pleasure of experiencing the beauty of the volcano.

"Sentinels Rock"
Sentinel Mountaineers spear-headed Sentinel President Mr. Jhiffy “Epoy” Cabatingan has been considered as the “Trent Protectors of Mt. Kanlaon” (derived from a computer game DOTA character TRENT PROTECTOR, a tree-like character that protects and controls nature).

Quipot Falls

Quipot Falls takes the shape of a bottle and drops down from a hundred meter elevation before it plunges into a deep water basin that is suitable for swimming, boating and fishing. Solid but uneven rock formations provide as a backdrop for its wide cascade. It has three tributary rivers – Binalbagan, Malaiba and Linothangan -- whose waters incessantly converge to bestow Quipot Falls with ample gushing water supply.
Located just 5 kilometres from the Canlaon City proper, Quipot Falls is one of the tourist attractions in the city that has brought in many enthusiasts travelling from all parts of the country and the world. The waterfall is enveloped with tropical plants and trees that also provide a habitat for wildlife.

SUNSET * SUNRISE

The main attraction of Canlaon City is a trek up Mount Kanlaon, the most imposing landmark in
the island of Negros and one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines.

While Mt. Kanlaon itself falls under the political jurisdiction of the adjacent province of Negros Occidental, it is accessible from Canlaon which is a city in Negros Oriental.

Canlaon City, situated on the eastern foot plain of Mt. Canlaon, sits at the boundary dividing both provinces of Negros Island. It s bounded on the north by the city of San Carlos and west by La Castellana, Negros Occidental, on the east by Vallehermoso on the south by Guihulngan, Negros Oriental.

Mount Kanlaon
The most imposing landmark in the island of Negros and one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines. At 2,415 meters above sea level Mt Kanlaon has the highest peak in Central Philippines.
